The promises made by military recruiters about education and career opportunities in the military aren’t fulfilled for many recruits.  In fact, the unemployment rate for veterans who have served since 2001 is significantly higher than for civilians, with the youngest veterans, aged 18-24, posting an ultra-high jobless rate of 21.4 percent in 2013.
